Good afternoon Blue Jay feather fans! Today I asked my fb friends to share their found Blue Jay feathers so I can take them to classrooms when I read my book! The jays are common in my area but some children have never seen one. Claire Sedovic has many blue jay illustrations in my book and I want the content to have real life connections to my audience…hence the feathers!

After a brief walk in my own little woodlot, I also asked my elderly neighbour if she had any beautiful feathers. She did and generously shared them with me!

I’ve had many neighbours in my life but Doreen is not only kind, generous and a wise soul, she’s also funny, hardworking and nothing escapes her. She is always there to help and eager to share her wisdom.

Someday I think I’ll write a story about her. I told her she reminded me of Ice Cap, “as cool as she is kind” and possessing a “heart of gold”.

Today, remember to smile and communicate with your elderly neighbours! They are truly treasures!

Cheers to all of you!
